At Portora Royal Scholl (1920-23) Samuel Beckett excelled at sport representing the school’s 1st XI and XV in Cricket & Rugby respectively, playing alongside Irish Rugby International Alan Buchanan.  He was well known for his highly competitive spirit and became the Light Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the school.  He also won medals in swimming and owing at Portora.  He was passionate about sports all his life tuning in to international rugby on the radio, regularly attending Lords when rehearsing in London.  And he can lay claim to being the only Nobel Prize winner in Cricket’s Wisden Almanack.

**THE BECKETT BIKE-IT: PEDAL FOR PURGATORY FAMILY CYCLING CHALLENGE**

Colebrooke Estate (near Brookeborough)
Saturday August 25th 10.00am.

A fun competitive event involving a cycle around the beautiful Colebrooke Estate completing small physical, mental and skill based team challenges en route.  Each team will be presented with a map, route and series of challenges that they must undertake which will be scored throughout.  The team completing the cycle challenge with the most points will be deemed the winner.

Suitable for all ages. Equipment required: bike and helmet, suitable loose clothing, sun cream, sunglasses and a hat.  Share have a range of bikes available for hire at a small extra cost.

Colebrooke Estate in association with Share Discovery Village. Cost of £60 for a team of 4.
